Windows Vista vs.Mac OS X font rendering

There has been a lot written about Microsoft's ClearType technology and how much of an improvement it is in Windows Vista. Ascender is proud to have helped produce these fonts, and also to be able to offer the Microsoft ClearType Font Collection to users for download.
Vista puts Mac OS X font rendering to shame George Ou ZDNet.com: "One of the first things I noticed when I switched to Windows Vista earlier this year was how much of an improvement in font readability Vista has over earlier versions of Windows for the screen fonts. Windows XP had an older version of “Clear type” that I was never satisfied with so I always ended up using zero font smoothing technology. The fonts in XP were either too thin or too thick and it just didn’t work right with Clear type. But I got an even bigger shock when I looked at a Mac this week. I was at a colleague’s desk and noticed how messed up his fonts were on his shiny Mac "


Zune Phone from Microsoft?

Ascender designed the fonts featured both in the Zune player, and in the Zune branding:
Microsoft comments on Zune Phone speculation: "Microsoft said that it was 'not unreasonable' to speculate that the company could introduce a smartphone based on its Zune digital music player, in direct competition with Apple's iPhone."
